Build a unit

Tell me about the unit you need built

Nine short steps — the unit code, your LMS, how you deliver it, and what you want back. One unit of competency per build. Only step 1 is required — everything else has a sensible default. Your answers come to me as a structured brief; I run the build privately and send everything back, typically within a few business days.

What to build

Which unit of competency is this build for? Its elements, performance criteria and evidence requirements are read from training.gov.au automatically.

4–12 letters/digits, e.g. CHCCOM005, BSBWHS332X.

A unit of competency is one training.gov.au unit — CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services. A qualification is the whole certificate or diploma — ICT30120 Certificate III in Information Technology — and is made up of a set of core and elective units.

The build works one unit at a time. Each unit produces its own learning content, question bank, assessments and compliance documents, and its own restorable Moodle course. Choose a qualification and the next step loads its units — core locked in, electives yours to pick — and everything after that applies across the whole program.

Units in the qualification

The core units are fixed by the training package — they're included automatically and can't be unticked. Choose your electives below; the counter shows how many the qualification still needs.

Enter a qualification code in step 1 first.

LMS / output target

Where will this unit be delivered? Your choice sets which deliverables are available in the deliverables step (SCORM version, question-bank format, book, or a complete standalone website).

Delivery of this unit

How this one unit is delivered. The hours and the AQF level set the depth target — each element is authored until its content volume and level match.

Volume of learning is published at qualification level (a Certificate III might be 1,200 hours across all its units). That is not what goes here. Enter the hours your RTO allocates to this one unit — its nominal or scheduled hours. Both fields are optional: leave them blank and the AQF level alone sets the depth.

Everything the learner does — class, practical, study, assessment.
Formal, trainer-led delivery.

Environment & resources — all optional

Skip this step if you'd rather not answer it now. The unit's own Assessment Conditions are read from training.gov.au and used as written — the build never invents a facility you don't have. This step only records where your context differs, or confirms what you already have in place.

Add each item separately. Leave empty and the documents will list what the unit requires, for you to confirm later.

Learners — all optional

Who the learners are — this feeds the reading level, examples and pacing the content is authored to. Anything you leave blank is authored to the unit's own AQF level with no assumptions made about your cohort.

Usually not known until you have learners in front of you. Left blank, the assessment tools carry the standard reasonable-adjustment provision for an assessor to apply case by case — the competency standard itself is never changed.
Free-form guidance honoured throughout the authoring.

Assessment

Which assessment methods are preferred or available in your context.

RTO & document control

Used on the compliance documents (TAS, assessment tools, mapping matrix) so they arrive ready to file. All optional.

Deliverables

Pick what you want in the pack. Every build produces a complete Moodle course covering this one unit, delivered as individual files and one restorable .mbz course backup.

This one choice sets how both the Books and the question bank are organised.
SCORM ships as individual per-element packages. Books, Quizzes and Assignments are also assembled into the .mbz Moodle course backup, which every build produces.
The VET compliance documents (TAS, assessment tools, marking guides, mapping matrix) as editable .docx — delivered individually and inside the .mbz "Compliance pack" folder.
Which model generates the diagrams / illustrations embedded in SCORM slides and book chapters.
